Samsung will start rolling out the Android 9 Pie update for its Galaxy M-series phones, aka the Galaxy M10, Galaxy M20 and Galaxy M30, in India from June 3. The Android 9 Pie update will bring “important improvements and security patches to Galaxy M10, Galaxy M20 and Galaxy M30,” in addition to “improving Galaxy M-series performance,” Samsung said in a press statement on Friday. Not to mention, the new update will also bump up the software inside these phones, to One UI.

The Galaxy M10, Galaxy M20 and Galaxy M30 were all launched with Android 8.1 Oreo-based Experience UI 9.5, even as Samsung was shipping their Galaxy A-series counterparts with the new One UI. Samsung had however promised Android 9 Pie update rollout for all current-generation Galaxy M-series phones including the entry-level Galaxy M10 in the days to come – it's nice to see Samsung sticking to its promise.

Although Samsung isn’t giving out finer details, One UI inside its Galaxy A-series phones is very similar to the One UI that powers its flagship Galaxy S10 phones – something similar will be expected from the One UI update for the Galaxy M-series as well.

The Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 marked the global debut of Samsung’s Galaxy M-series -- an online-only series of affordable smartphones that replaces the company’s Galaxy On line-up. While the Galaxy M10 starts at Rs 7,990, the Galaxy M20 is available for buying starting at Rs 10,990. The Galaxy M30 is meanwhile a step up in the series that was recently launched in India at a starting price of Rs 14,990.

The announcement comes just in time as Samsung is gearing to launch its next Galaxy M phone, aka the Galaxy M40 in India in early June. According to an IANS report, the Galaxy M40 will come with features like a punch-hole display and triple rear cameras, at a price of around Rs 25,000.

Going somewhat off the script, the Galaxy M40 is said to pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and not Samsung’s in-house Exynos SoC that is seen inside all the current Galaxy M-series phones. Rumor has it that the Galaxy M40 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor like the Galaxy A70 – also, the phone has been rumored to come with up to 6GB RAM, Android 9 Pie-based One UI and a 5,000mAh battery.
