Hack:

  • The Galaxy M30 will be Samsung’s first phone to ship with an Infinity-U display
  • The Galaxy M30 will also come with three rear cameras

The Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 are Samsung’s first-ever Infinity-V display phones. But they ditch the company’s signature AMOLED display panel, instead opting for the aging TFT LCD, possibly to cut cost. Xiaomi has been quick to point out this purported shortcoming on social media, claiming its Redmi Note 7 (that uses IPS LCD) has a better screen ahead of its February 28 launch.

As a quick rebuttal, Samsung is not only launching an updated product called the Galaxy M30 a day earlier (on February 27), it is also letting potential buyers know, the upcoming phone will come with a Super AMOLED panel, to kind of balance things out.

The Galaxy M30 will also be Samsung’s first phone to ship with an Infinity-U teardrop/waterdrop-style notch, the company has confirmed. The screen will be bigger too, in comparison to the Galaxy M20. As opposed to the Galaxy M20’s 6.2-inch 1080p+ TFT LCD screen, the Galaxy M30 will come with a 6.4-inch 1080p+ Super AMOLED display.

The Galaxy M30 will look a lot like the Galaxy M20 from the front as well as from the back but there will be one major difference between the two phones. While the Galaxy M20 has a dual camera setup on the rear, the Galaxy M30 will come with three rear cameras.

The triple camera setup on the M30 is rumored to be 13MP+5MP+5MP and even though the functionality of each of these sensors is unknown, chances are it could be standard+wide-angle+depth much like how things are in the Galaxy A7.

An IANS report recently suggested that the price of the Galaxy M30 could start at around Rs 15,000. If true, that would make it the most affordable phone to pack a triple camera setup.

Just like the Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 before it, the Galaxy M30 will be also an Amazon India-exclusive in the country and should be also available on Samsung’s own e-store. Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy M-series will be sold only online, and the company will be selling it through flash-sales model.
