Samsung’s newly launched Galaxy Note 10+ 5G is now the best camera phone in the world, if the folks at DxOMark are anything to go by. Because the non-5G Galaxy Note 10+ has the same camera setup, this invariably also makes the Galaxy Note 10+ the best camera phone that money can buy today. Also, because the vanilla Galaxy Note 10 packs the same main camera(s) (minus the fourth Time-of-Flight sensor) on the front as well as on the back, this also makes it a camera phone, that you should watch out for.

Not only does the Galaxy Note 10+ have the best rear camera(s), it also has the best front camera – making it the class-leading flagship camera phone in the market right now. The Huawei P30 Pro had the best rear camera setup, while the Asus ZenFone 6 (Asus 6Z in India) had the best front camera setup, previously.

The Galaxy Note 10+ (5G) got an overall score of 113 (the Huawei P30 Pro maxed out at 112) - with a 118 in still photos (which is one point behind the Huawei P30 Pro) and a 101 in videos (which is the highest for a smartphone to date). The front camera, meanwhile, got an overall score of 99 – with a 103 in still photos and a 93 in videos. Even though the main camera in the case of the Galaxy Note 10+ is the same as that in the Galaxy S10+, Samsung seems to have made under the hood software optimizations in its new phone that make it a much better camera phone in comparison.

The scores are accompanied by praise for the Galaxy Note10+’ wide dynamic range across varying lighting conditions – the one area where it still lags though is in extremely low light.

That said, with phones like the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, Google Pixel 4 and the next iPhone in the horizon, it would be interesting to see how long before we have a new smartphone camera champion.

The Galaxy Note 10+ has four cameras in all - quad rear cameras consisting of one 12MP wide (77-degree field of view) sensor with variable f/1.5-f/2.4 aperture and dual pixel OIS, a 16MP ultra-wide (123-degree field of view) sensor with f/2.2 aperture and fixed focus, a 12MP telephoto sensor with OIS and f/2.1 aperture, and a Time-of-Flight camera for 3D depth mapping purposes. The vanilla Galaxy Note 10 meanwhile comes with triple rear cameras (same as Galaxy Note 10+ minus ToF). Both the phones come with a 10MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture and 80-degree field-of-view.
