Samsung has started mass producing 1TB embedded Universal Flash Storage (eUFS) 2.1 to beef up the internal storage capacity of smartphones in the future. Samsung plans to expand the production of fifth-gen 512GB V-NAND in Korea throughout the first half of 2019 to gauge the demand for the 1TB eUFS from smartphone makers worldwide.

So we can safely assume the company's upcoming Note flagship device - Samsung Galaxy Note 10 - could feature as much as 1TB of internal storage. Samsung initially came up with 128GB eUFS four years ago. Now it looks like smartphone devices have begun matching up with storage offerings from PCs and laptops.

According to Samsung, the size 1TB eUFS remains the same as 512GB which is 11.5mm x 13.0mm. Theoretically, it can store 260 10-minute videos in 4K UHD (3840×2160) format compared to 13 videos of the same size on 64GB eUFS.

“The 1TB eUFS is expected to play a critical role in bringing more notebook-like user experience to the next generation of mobile devices,” said Cheol Choi, executive vice president of Memory Sales & Marketing at Samsung Electronics.

Samsung said the 1TB eUFS enables read speed of up to 1,000 megabytes per second (MB/s), which is twice as many as a typical 2.5-inch SATA solid state drive (SSD). Furthermore, Samsung explains the random read speed has seen an increase by up to 38 per cent over the 512GB version.

What's more, random writes are claimed to be 500 times faster than on a microSD card. Samsung also claims the random speeds enable continuous video recording at 960 frames per second to let users benefit from camera capabilities on the next-gen flagship devices.
