HTC was crazy enough to do a phone without any physical buttons last year and looks like Samsung is set to join the bandwagon this year with the Galaxy Note 10. A new ETNews report suggests that the Galaxy Note 10 – successor to the Galaxy Note 9 – will come without any physical button. Sort of like the HTC U12+ - this means the Galaxy Note 10 may have physical demarcations for the power button, volume rocker and the Bixby button, which would in turn may be pressure sensitive for haptic feedback.

The setup, much like it was in the HTC U12+, should entail in a seamless outer frame, sans any buttons to obstruct the hand-hold feel. The HTC U12+ however was marred by issues in this regard – the setup although novel, was far from perfect. It would be interesting to see how Samsung plans to implement it in the Galaxy Note 10 – if at all it is looking to implement it.

Come to think of it, it won’t be surprising – Samsung has been working towards an all-screen future and it has already introduced gestures in One UI that work well across the board. Getting rid of physical buttons would be the next step – so users would seemingly be able to forget all and marvel at its gorgeous AMOLED screens.

It is yet to be seen if Samsung will be also looking to omit connectivity ports like Meizu Zero and Vivo Apex 2019 – both of which are mere concepts at this point of time.

The report also adds that the Galaxy Note 10 may not be the first Samsung phone to get the no physical buttons treatment. Samsung may launch it first in one of its upcoming Galaxy A-series phones – possibly to gauge user interest before going all gung-ho with flagships.

Samsung has been doing this for a while now – whether you talk about punch-hole screens, quad cameras and whatnot, Samsung has been bringing new features to Galaxy A phones first before putting them on flagships like the Galaxy S10. Take the recently launched Galaxy A70, for instance. The Galaxy A70 is the first Samsung phone to feature an extra-tall 20:9 screen and 27W fast charging.
