Rumours that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10 line-up will be able to wirelessly charge other compatible devices have been doing the rounds for a while now. A new FCC filing now confirms that the Galaxy S10 will indeed support reverse wireless charging feature. But it is the second bit in this FCC filing that is the exciting bit. The Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy S10E will all support 9W reverse wireless charging.

The Samsung Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy S10E will be able to act as a wireless charging mat for other compatible devices like smartwatches and smartphones. We’ve already seen Huawei toy around with the tech in its premiere Mate 20 Pro, but it seems it is still very early days for it. The version inside the Huawei Mate 20 Pro isn’t exactly ideal to comfortably charge compatible devices. It is slow and takes some time getting used to as far as positioning of devices is concerned. Samsung’s 9W reverse wireless charging seems faster (at least on paper) even though Huawei does not quote numbers for its own take.

For some backgrounder, Samsung’s current-generation fast wireless charger supports 9W output which means it will be looking to offer the same numbers with its reverse wireless charging feature on-board the Galaxy S10 phones. Even though there are reports that Samsung is working on a 15W fast wireless charger to tag along with the Galaxy S10, reverse wireless charging at 9W is still a big deal.

Moreover, the FCC filing also suggests that the Galaxy S10 trio will be one of the first phones to support the latest and greatest Wi-Fi 6 standard. You will still need a Wi-Fi 6 router – it’s still early days for Wi-Fi 6 – but to make use of all the gains but at least, the support will make the Galaxy S10 future-ready.

Samsung will launch the Galaxy S10 line-up on February 20 ahead of MWC 2019. The Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy S10E are expected to pack updated punch-hole designs and updated specs including the latest Exynos 9820 (for India)/Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 (for the US) processor.
