In what could be its smallest high-resolution image sensor, Samsung has introduced the ISOCELL Slim 3T2 at 1/3.4-inch which is approximately 5.1mm diagonally. ISOCELL Slim 3T2 is aimed at mid-range smartphones, and it can deliver 20-megapixel resolution for both front and back cameras.
It is claimed to offer high colour fidelity, courtesy of the company's ISOCELL Plus technology that ensures better colour accuracy and light sensitivity in photos.
With the advent of notch designs, front-facing sensors for selfies and video calls are hardly left with enough space. And now that we are going to see more brands coming up with in-display, punch hole selfie cameras, their size might become an issue. Samsung has tried to address this issue by minimising the size on ISOCELL Slim 3T2.
It should fit into a tiny module, leaving room for the extra real estate. Additionally, it's claimed to take brighter and sharper pictures in low-light settings, courtesy of Samsung’s Tetracell technology.
“The ISOCELL Slim 3T2 is our smallest and most versatile 20Mp image sensor that helps mobile device manufacturers bring differentiated consumer value not only in camera performance but also in features including hardware design,” said Jinhyun Kwon, vice president of System LSI sensor marketing at Samsung Electronics.
“As the demand for advanced imaging capabilities in mobile devices continues to grow, we will keep pushing the limits in image sensor technologies for richer user experiences.”
Samsung claims "the small size of the image sensor also decreases the length of the tele-camera module by around seven percent when compared to Samsung’s 1/3-inch 20Mp image sensor."
Samsung is expected to start mass-producing ISOCELL Slim 3T2 in the first quarter of this year.
