Samsung's new-age Galaxy A lineup is seemingly off to a blazing start in India. The company has announced that it has sold 50 lakh Galaxy A-series phones in India in 70 days, generating over USD 1 billion in revenue in the process. Samsung plans to sell USD 4 billion worth of Galaxy A phones in India by the end of this year, it said in a press statement.

Samsung’s Galaxy A lineup consists of six models currently - Galaxy A10, A20, A30, A50, A70 and the entry-level Galaxy A2 Core. A seventh model, aka the Galaxy A80, will be launched in India in the beginning of June – the Galaxy A80 will offer a unique take on the conventional all-screen smartphone with one-of-its-kind rotating camera module. The Galaxy A80 is expected to be the most premium and most expensive smartphone in the Galaxy A line-up.

"I would like to thank our consumers for making Galaxy A an unprecedented success story. Designed for young millennials and Gen Z, Galaxy A offers capabilities to shoot videos in Ultra–Wide, Slow-Mo and Hyperlapse modes. These features are transforming the way consumers are using smartphones by allowing real-time content creation and sharing," Ranjivjit Singh, who is SVP and Chief Marketing Officer, Samsung India said.

Samsung has come up with a new strategy with regards to its 2019 Galaxy A phones. While Galaxy A phones in the past were mere ‘Lite’ variants of the more premium Galaxy S phones, new-age Galaxy A phones are different. With them, Samsung is trying to experiment with new and unique features never seen before in any other Samsung phone – which invariably means it is trying to bring many innovations to the budget and mid-range segment. Based on the feedback, it is then incorporating these features into its more expensive models.

Take the Galaxy A70 for instance. The main highlights of the Galaxy A70 are its unusually tall 20:9 Infinity-U display and 25W fast charging - both of which are a first for any Samsung phone, let alone any Samsung Galaxy A-series phone. Samsung has launched the Galaxy A70 in India at a price of Rs 28,990.

The soon-to-launch Galaxy A80 is another example. The Galaxy A80 is the first Samsung phone to come with its ‘New Infinity’ display which is a simple way of saying it has no notch or cutout to obstruct your view – it is an all-screen smartphone. Thanks to its rotating camera.
