Vivo has started dropping major Easter eggs in relation to its upcoming V15 Pro phone. While it has already confirmed that the V15 Pro will come with a 32MP pop-up selfie camera, it is now revealing more information about the phone’s triple rear camera setup.

Amazon India has started teasing the V15 Pro confirming that Vivo’s new phone will be exclusive to it. The listing page also confirms that the Vivo V15 Pro will come with a 48MP primary rear camera with 12MP effective pixels which means only one thing. The Vivo V15 Pro will use the same 48MP sensor as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, which is the Samsung-sourced GM1 sensor. And not the Sony IMX586 sensor which is found in the Honor View 20.

Both the Samsung GM1 and Sony IMX586 are the first to make high-definition 48 effective megapixels photography possible on a smartphone form-factor – capable of producing high-quality photos with more details even when zoomed in. The Sony IMX586 uses a Quad-Bayer array arranged in 4x4 for a total of 48-million-pixel count, whereas the Samsung GM1 can do only 12MP photos only to then interpolate to 48MP. In simpler terms, the Sony IMX586 is a true 48MP sensor. The Samsung GM1 is not. Regardless, there’s more to smartphone photography than just the sensor and the megapixels so we will have to wait and watch how well Vivo has fine-tuned the sensor and the software algorithm to make use of these 12MP effective pixels.

Vivo does not confirm the kind of sensor that it is using in the V15 Pro’s selfie cam. But chances are the V15 Pro will use Samsung’s recently announced 32MP GD1 image sensor, which much like its 48MP GM1 sensor will use interpolation to achieve that golden 32MP resolution in photos. When actually, it will still be natively shooting at 8MP.

Vivo will launch the Vivo V15 Pro in India on February 20. A source familiar with Vivo’s plans has confirmed to Republic World that the company will launch the V15 Pro in India at a price in between Rs 30,000-Rs 35,000. A toned-down variant called the V15 will be launched later.
