A new Rs 69 plan from Vodafone is now live. This comes with a validity of 28 days, amidst the decision by the telco to retail free unlimited calling as it is to subscribers making outgoing calls to other networks. There is a USP for the new Rs 69 plan. This offers limited free calling minutes as well as 250MB data.

The new Rs 69 plan

Gauging the new Rs 69 plan, it is clear that the scheme is designed for those preferring to retain their prepaid numbers as it is and intending to save money on huge monthly recharges. As far as its free calling is concerned, the Vodafone Rs 69 plan offers 150 minutes of free calling time. This also includes STD calls. Then, there are 100 free SMS messages applicable for the entire duration of 28 days. These details remind of the yesteryear packs offered by various telcos that contained limited benefits and were primarily designed to let prepaid subscribers retain their numbers. Hence, in today’s unlimited calling (and cheap data) times, these sort of plans are tad off-beat. The Rs 69 plan also falls under the ambit of Bonus Cards.

At this point in time, the Rs 69 plan is reflecting on Vodafone India’s eRecharge portal for multiple telecom circles. However, not all circles seem to covered for now. This is expected to take place soon.  In summary, this scheme is only for prepaid users. In case subscribers prefer increased calling, then there is always the unlimited packs that offer both free voice calls as well as unlimited data.

In related Vodafone news, the telco has made it clear that it would keep unlimited calling s it is, without charging extra as Interconnect Usage Charges. At this juncture, Jio would charge users 6 paise per minute on outgoing calls made to non-Jio networks. This has led to increased debates in the Indian telecom sector, for now.  Even rival telco Bharti Airtel has said that it would maintain free outgoing as it is.
