Xiaomi has launched yet another budget phone with some interesting specs in China – the Redmi 7. The Redmi 7 maybe considered as a toned-down version of the recently launched Redmi Note 7 Pro and Redmi Note 7 that tries to bring a premium glossy design, dual rear cameras and a sizeable 4,000mAh battery at an even more affordable price.

Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 7 in as many as three configurations – 2GB RAM/16 GB storage, 3GB RAM/32GB storage and 4GB RAM/64GB storage. Prices start at CNY 699 (roughly Rs 7,000) for the base variant with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage going all the way to CNY 999 (roughly Rs 10,000) for the top-end variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The Redmi 7 is exclusive to China for now – but Xiaomi’s Redmi phones have had a history of coming to India so something similar will be expected from the Redmi 7 as well.

The Redmi 7 has the same look and feel as the Redmi Note 7 (India variant that has solid colours rather than a gradient design like the Redmi Note 7 Pro) and it is also available in a slew of attractive colours including red, blue and black. It is made of plastic though, but Xiaomi is incorporating a P2i hydrophobic coating on it (like the Redmi Note 7 Pro and Redmi Note 7) which makes the phone resistant to light splashes of water/rain.

Moving on, the Redmi 7 has a 6.26-inch 720p+ (HD+) display with a teardrop/waterdrop style notch - Xiaomi is calling it a dot notch.

The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 processor paired with up to 4GB RAM and up to 64GB storage which is also expandable. The dual SIM phone runs Android Pie-based MIUI 10 and packs a 4,000mAh battery under the hood with 5V/2A charging through micro-USB.

Onto optics, the Redmi 7 comes with a dual rear camera system consisting of one 12MP sensor and another 2MP sensor for depth sensing aka portrait photography. On the front, the Redmi 7 comes with an 8MP camera.

Xiaomi Redmi 7 price and availability

The Redmi 7 starts at CNY 699 (which roughly translates to Rs 7,000) for the base variant with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, going all the way to CNY 999 (roughly Rs 10,000) for the top-end variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The 3GB RAM and 32GB storage variant of the Redmi 7 will meanwhile sell for CNY 799 (roughly Rs 8,000). The Redmi 7 is a China-only affair for now.
