Xiaomi is gearing to launch yet another budget phone, aka Redmi 8, in India on October 9. Ahead of launch Xiaomi has already confirmed a couple of key aspects of the phone, and now it is confirming a few more. The Redmi 8 will come with what Xiaomi is calling an “aura mirror” design and there will also be a waterdrop-style notch (dot notch) on the front. We already know that the Redmi 8 will come with dual rear cameras and now Xiaomi has revealed that the primary camera will use a Sony sensor.

The new reveals suggest that Xiaomi is looking to opt for a new design scheme for the Redmi 8. The Redmi 7 launched earlier in the year came with an updated design – in comparison to the Redmi 7 – but looks like the Redmi 8 is set to get a design overhaul too. The branding aura mirror seems to suggest that the Redmi 8 will come with a glossy design – it would be interesting to see if Xiaomi is going for glass on this one. The Redmi 7 was all-plastic for some perspective. Xiaomi also says that the Redmi 8 will come with ultimate screen protection and splash resistance. Now, Xiaomi has already brought Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and P2i coating to the masses through the Redmi 8A which was recently launched in India. It won’t be surprising if the Redmi 8 gets them too.

About the cameras, Xiaomi says that the Redmi 8 cameras will pack industry leading edge detection, seemingly hinting at the phone’s secondary portrait camera.

Redmi 8 rumoured specs

According to rumour mills, the Redmi 8 will come with a 6.21-inch HD+ or 720p+ display – with Xiaomi’s dot notch. The phone is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 439 processor paired with up to 4GB RAM and up to 64GB storage. The Redmi 8 is further said to pack a sizeable 5,000mAh battery with USB Type-C port for charging and data syncing. On to the cameras, the phone is said to come with two rear cameras – a 12MP main camera and another 2MP depth sensor for portrait photography. On the front, the phone is said to come with an 8MP camera.
