Xiaomi has launched – or rather, relaunched – the Redmi K20 Pro in China with Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line Snapdragon 855+ chipset. The existing Redmi K20 Pro, that is also sold in India, tops out at a Snapdragon 855. Plus, the new model, called simply the Redmi K20 Pro Premium or Redmi K20 Pro Exclusive edition, also gets a top-end variant with whopping 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. Rest of the hardware (and design) stays the same.

The Redmi K20 Pro Premium has been launched in China at a starting price of CNY 2,699 (roughly Rs 27,100) for the base variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, going all the way to CNY 3,199 (roughly Rs 32,100) for the top-end variant with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. The phone will be available for buying in China from September 23 – it would be interesting to see if Xiaomi brings the updated Redmi K20 Pro with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ to India anytime soon.

Key Specs

Speaking of core specs, the Redmi K20 Pro Premium boasts of a 3D glass build (with a flashy gradient design that Xiaomi calls ‘aura prime’), a 6.39-inch 1080p+ AMOLED screen with an in-screen fingerprint reader and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, a top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ processor paired with up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage (non-expandable), triple rear cameras (48MP+13MP+8MP), a 20MP pop-up selfie camera, Android Pie-based MIUI 11 software, and a 4,000mAh battery with 27W fast charging via USB Type-C. Xiaomi says that the Redmi K20 Pro Premium also ships with improved cooling over the existing Redmi K20 Pro.

In other news, Xiaomi is also gearing for a big hardware reveal event in China on September 24 where it will take the wraps off two new 5G flagship phones, aka the Mi 9 Pro and Mi Mix 4. The Mi Mix 4 and Mi 9 Pro 5G phones will also be accompanied by Xiaomi’s new MIUI 11 software reveal.
