Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 India launch by March end: Report

Xiaomi will reportedly launch the Redmi Note 7 in India by the end of March. The same report also suggests that Xiaomi will launch the unannounced Redmi Note 7 Pro and its first Go-edition phone, aka the Redmi Go, in India before the end of the first quarter. The report cites trusted sources, although we do advice readers to take this piece of information with a pinch of salt. Xiaomi is yet to formally announce its plans for its new Redmi sub-brand with regards to India.  

Redmi is now an independent sub-brand of Xiaomi and the Redmi Note 7 is its first phone. It boasts of a fresh design language and a waterdrop-style notch. It is also the first phone in its category to sport a whopping 48MP rear camera. There’s also a 5MP secondary camera for depth-sensing. On the front, the Redmi Note 7 comes with a 13MP camera. 

Core hardware specs include, a 6.3-inch 1080p+ display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor with up to 6GB RAM and up to 64GB storage, Android Pie-based MIUI 10, and a 4,000mAh battery with support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4. The dual-SIM phone charges via USB Type-C and retains the headphone jack as well.   

The Redmi Note 7 Pro will be the second product under Redmi sub-brand. Xiaomi has announced that it will launch the Redmi Note 7 Pro in China after the Spring Festival which is on February 5. It is expected to look and feel exactly like the Redmi Note 7 but it will pack slightly better hardware especially in the camera department. 

Xiaomi has confirmed that the Redmi Note 7 Pro will also sport a 48MP primary camera like the Redmi Note 7, but it will come with a better sensor. While the Redmi Note 7 Pro uses a Samsung-sourced GM1 sensor, the Redmi Note 7 Pro will come with Sony’s IMX586 – the same sensor inside the Honor View 20.  

As for the Redmi Go, well, details about it are scarce as of this moment. But it is said to be a Go-edition phone so it is likely to come with bare-bones hardware (possibly 1GB RAM) and possibly a low price tag – lower than the company’s entry-level Redmi 6A. Go-edition means the phone will run a stock version of Android (Go), a step below what is found inside the company’s Android One-backed Mi A2.
