Xiaomi is gearing to launch yet another affordable Redmi phone in India – this time, it is very likely the successor of the Redmi Y2. The phone in question will very likely be called the Redmi Y3. Also, it is very likely that the Redmi Y3 will come with a 32MP front camera.

Xiaomi’s Redmi Y-series focuses entirely on the selfie camera – although, last year’s Redmi Y2 also came with some interesting dual rear cameras. Both the Redmi Y2 and the Redmi Y1 before it, came with a 16MP front camera. Xiaomi maybe looking to take things up a notch with the Redmi Y3 by outfitting it with a whopping 32MP selfie camera.

All Y-series phone have hovered around the Redmi Note price point – which is around Rs 10,000 and should that be the case with the Redmi Y3, it would be a first for any budget smartphone to have a 32MP front camera at its low price. It won’t be surprising though - Xiaomi literally stunned the world by launching the Redmi Note 7 Pro with 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor in India for Rs 13,999.

Not a lot is known about the Redmi Y3 since Xiaomi hasn’t launched the phone yet anywhere else in the world – whether this would be another India-first launch is something only time will tell. Regardless, Xiaomi has started dropping hints on social media. In addition to a 32MP front camera, the Redmi Y3 will also have a long-lasting battery – the Redmi Y2 had a 3,080mAh battery but it did quite well.

The only downsides were the Redmi Y2’s plastic build and 720p display – and now that Xiaomi has a Redmi Note 7 with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and 1080p+ dot notch display, obviously many would expect something similar with the Redmi Y3 as well. Of course, one can also argue that the Redmi Y is a different series focused on something entirely different – which is what Xiaomi has stressed since its inception.

Speaking of which, Xiaomi has announced that it has sold 10 lakh Redmi Note 7 devices (Redmi Note 7 + Redmi Note 7 Pro) in India in 1 month. The Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro were launched in India on February 28.
