The Redmi Note 5 Pro is getting a big price cut in India possibly in celebration of the Redmi Note 5-series' fine run in the country. On Tuesday, Xiaomi announced that it has sold over 1 crore Redmi Note 5 Pro phones in India so far, and even though the number includes both the Redmi Note 5 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro, the latter has done particularly well for the company in question.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro was launched in India in February last year at a starting price of Rs 13,999 for the base 4GB RAM and 64GB storage version, going all the way to Rs 16,999 for the top-end version with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage. A follow-up device called the Redmi Note 6 Pro was launched late last year at a more or less similar price point.

While the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage version of the Redmi Note 5 Pro will now sell for Rs 12,999, the 6GB RAM and 64GB storage version will be available for as low as Rs 13,999. The price cut will apply across online and offline sales channels.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro was globally launched in India in February last year alongside the more affordable Redmi Note 5. The Redmi Note 5 Pro also marked the global debut of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor. The Redmi Note 5 Pro brings a good set of hardware and interesting cameras – both front and back – at mainstream pricing. The Redmi Note 6 Pro launched boasts of more or less the same core hardware, making the Redmi Note 5 Pro all the more appealing at its discounted price.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro price cut comes just days after Xiaomi announced a permanent price cut on its Android One-backed Mi A2 phone. While the base version of the Mi A2 with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage has received a Rs 2,000 price cut, its top-end version with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage is now selling for Rs 3,000 less, across online and offline stores. The Xiaomi Mi A2 now starts at Rs 13,999 and goes all the way to Rs 15,999. While the 4GB RAM, 64GB storage version of the Mi A2 was originally launched at Rs 16,999, the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage version was launched at Rs 19,999.
