Xiaomi is letting India know who its Redmi K20-series will be up against at launch – which is happening within 6 weeks by the way. The Redmi K20-series will be Xiaomi’s answer to the OnePlus 7-series – and Xiaomi is being more than vocal about it. Xiaomi has started its advertising campaign by installing giant billboards across India – pitting the Redmi K20 (and Redmi K20 Pro) straight up against the OnePlus 7 (and OnePlus 7 Pro).

More interestingly, each of these billboards have been installed strategically right next to a OnePlus 7 Pro billboard – at least, that’s what images shared by Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain seem to suggest. Xiaomi also takes it a step further in word play – boasting how its Redmi K20 is ‘starkly’ superior to the OnePlus 7 Pro. In case you didn’t know, Robert Downey Jr. who is synonymous with the character of Tony Stark, is the new brand ambassador of OnePlus – which is the inspiration for the word play here.

After having secured its position as India’s number one smartphone brand, Xiaomi is clearly going after OnePlus now – a company that has emerged as India’s top brand when it comes to premium value for money smartphones. And Xiaomi has paper specs backing those claims – not to mention a price tag that’s lower than what the new OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro cost in India. For some reference, the Redmi K20 Pro starts at CNY 2,499 (roughly Rs 25,200) for the base variant with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage while the top-end variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage has been launched at CNY 2,999 (roughly Rs 30,226) - the vanilla OnePlus 7 starts at Rs 32,999 (6GB/128GB) in India.

If at all Xiaomi can price the Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro as aggressively, both these phones have the goods to give the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro a run for their money.

Xiaomi has confirmed that the Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro will be launched in India within 6 weeks – which means by mid-July. And Xiaomi may bring the Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro to India as is. To recall, there have been rumors that Xiaomi may launch the Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro in India as the Poco F2 and Poco F2 Pro.
