Over the last few weeks, we have been hearing a lot about Xiaomi’s plans to release a 48MP camera smartphone. Xiaomi is all set to launch a new phone next week, which is indeed believed to feature a 48MP camera. A new teaser page has gone live on the company's Chinese website, according to which Xiaomi is releasing a new Redmi-branded phone on January 10 in China.
As per GSMArena report, Xiaomi has also been touting a "new independent brand" tagline, suggesting that Redmi would be an entirely new and independent Xiaomi sub-brand, similar to Honor and Realme. But this should not necessarily impact the brand's R&D and manufacturing operations. More clarity is awaited on the topic of Redmi's branding strategy going forward.
Teaser poster released by the company hints at a 48MP camera when inverted. To recall, there was a report last month that Xiaomi could be planning to release a new phone with a 48MP camera sometime in January 2019. Xiaomi co-founder and president Bin Lin posted a close up picture of a smartphone teasing a 48MP rear shooter.
Previously, a leaked teaser spotted on Weibo suggested that Xiaomi could be preparing to launch a new smartphone called Redmi Pro 2 in China. As per leaked teasers, powering Redmi Pro 2 could be Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor. Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 appears to be a camera-centric smartphone. That is essentially why Xiaomi Redmi 2 Pro is rumoured to feature a 48MP rear camera.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 675 processor incorporates its Spectra 250L ISP module with an aim to enhance the photography experience. Qualcomm SD675 supports up to 48MP snapshot, 25MP single camera and 16MP dual-camera. It also supports 4K video recording at 30 frames per second (fps).
