Xiaomi will launch its next-generation flagship Xiaomi Mi 9 phone on February 20, the same day that Samsung unpacks its Galaxy S10 trio of phones. Samsung’s Unpacked 2019 will be a global event however, whereas, the Xiaomi Mi 9 launch will be exclusive to China. Regardless, you ought to give it to Xiaomi, for choosing to go head-to-head with a behemoth like Samsung.

Xiaomi co-founder Lei Jun has confirmed the launch date on Chinese social media website Weibo even as the company’s official handle has shared a teaser image showing off the Mi 9. Even though the Mi 9 shown in the teaser shows off only the rear side, and even though the phone in it is sealed in a case, it seemingly confirms a recent leaked render of the phone as well as the fact that the Mi 9 will come with three rear cameras.

The Mi 9 was recently spotted online photographed in the hands of a Xiaomi product manager showing off a glossy back and a triple rear camera setup. The teaser that has been now shared by Xiaomi has the same vertically aligned triple rear cam arrangement, and even though you can’t make out the nature of the material used, it could well be glass. Just like it was in the leaked photograph.

Since Xiaomi is confident enough to start teasing the triple rear cameras of the Mi 9, chances are, these could be one big highlight of the phone in question. The Mi 9 triple rear cam setup is said to come with a 48MP main camera with Sony IMX586 sensor (the same sensor found inside the Honor View 20), a 12MP secondary sensor and another Time-of-Flight camera for 3D depth mapping.

Xiaomi isn’t revealing more details just yet, but considering how these things usually roll, more Easter eggs are expected to arrive ahead of launch. Not to mention, there have been some leaks already.

Basis of past leaks, the Xiaomi Mi 9 will reportedly pack a 24MP selfie camera embedded into a tear-drop style notch. It is also said to pack an in-display fingerprint scanner. The Xiaomi Mi 9, in all probability, will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. It is yet to be seen if the Mi 9 will support 5G as well. Xiaomi is heading to MWC 2019 to reveal a 5G-capable Mi Mix 3, so it will be interesting to see how things pan out for the Mi 9 in this regard.
