Origin of the universe has always been a contested question both scientifically and theologically.

While both religion and science have always claimed that the universe was created billions and billions of years ago, latest data from the Hubble telescope has revealed may be that the universe may be quite young: a pre-teen in the billions.

Hubble telescope has confirmed that the universe is expanding rapidly (like we do in our pre-teens) at the rate of 9% which makes it faster than what was theoretically predicted.

As scientists had calculated the early origins of the universe, they had found that there was an accelerated expansion but they did not know why. Recent data confirms that the calculation was off by a billion years.

Speaking to an international news agency, Adam Riess, an astronomer at the John Hopkins University speculated that while the original calculations suggested that the universe is between 13.6 and 13.8 billion years old, the new data slots its age between 12.5 to 13 billion years old making the universe a the billion tween.

“Hey, it’s good news,” Reiss told the news agency. “Everybody likes to look younger.”

While scientists have not confirmed this new younger universe theory, they speculate two possibilities to the rapid expansion of the universe.

NASA astrophysicist John Mather has said ambivalently, " Either we’re making mistakes  we can’t find yet or Nature has something we can’t find yet.”

Space and theology fans on Twitter went on airing all their doubts.
