Mysore Pak, the sweetheart of all sugary delicacies in the south, trended nationwide on Twitter, thanks to a prank by the none other than Anand Ranganathan. Ranganathan, who is also fondly called Ranga Uncle on social media, is well known as a man who dons several hats - from having authored books to being a researcher as well as one of the prominent guests on Republic's show 'The Debate'. The well-known personality whose posts on social media, especially on Twitter, garners much attention and response, tweeted on the micro-blogging platform about Mysore Pak. He said that the sweet - which people from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu claim to have originated from their respective states - received a GI (Geographical Indicator) tag from Tamil Nadu.

Anand Ranganathan clarifies about Mysore Pak

Perhaps even Ranganathan had not anticipated that his tweet would so much receive the humungous response, as people from Karnataka began raising havoc on Twitter, against the alleged GI tag given to Tamil Nadu for Mysore Pak. His tweet blew up and went viral, and Karnataka news channels picked up his tweet believing that Tamil Nadu indeed received the GI tag for Mysore Pak. Several Kannada news channels reported the joke as news until Rangathan revealed his tweet was just a prank. He even requested ANI's Editor Smita Prakash and BJP leader Tejaswi Surya to explain to netizens and Kannada TV channels alike that his tweet was merely a joke.
