Twitter CEO Elon Musk made his account on the micro-blogging site private to test a unique feature of the platform. He responded to a tweet that suggested setting an account to private can increase its reach factor. According to tests by Twitter users, tweets received five times more views and interactions when the account was set to private. Some users also noted that they received more notifications from the people they follow after setting their account to private. However, Twitter user Ian Miles Cheong said that he received very few likes or replies from mutuals in public posts and the pop-ups at the top made it almost unusable.

Musk changed his Twitter account settings to private to test if private tweets are seen more by his followers. He announced on Twitter that he would keep his account private until the next morning.

"Made my account private until tomorrow morning to test whether you see my private tweets more than my public ones," Musk wrote.

Since he took over Twitter last year, he has made several changes to the platform, including laying off a portion of the workforce and reinstating controversial accounts, such as Donald Trump and Andrew Tate.

Musk wants to find out what the glitch is

However, rapper Ye had his account banned again for sharing antisemitic posts. In November, Twitter introduced a premium subscription service called Twitter Blue, where users can pay a monthly fee for a blue tick and access to extra features like an edit button and increased visibility for their tweets. Other users in Twitter have also been turning their account into private, to see if their reach is increasing. It is unclear as of now why this issue is arising. It seems that Musk wants to find out what the glitch is and then fix it.
