Manipur Violence: Governor Agrees To Meet Delegation On Protesting Students Amid Unrest
Manipur governor Lakshman Acharya has agreed to meet a delegation of students in Imphal as they seek the dismissal of the DGP and the state security advisor over escalating tensions in Imphal. Following a surge in violence in Manipur and widespread protests across the state on Monday, an indefinite curfew was imposed in both Imphal districts on Tuesday. The district administrations of Imphal East and Imphal West issued curfew orders starting at 11 a.m. Tuesday, citing concerns over the “developing law and order situation.” In Imphal West, the curfew restricts “the movement of individuals outside their residences” until further notice, with exemptions for essential services and media personnel. The unrest, which has led to 11 deaths since September 1, has prompted significant student-led protests in the valley regions, particularly in Thoubal and Imphal.
