Jaunpur: A TV journalist has claimed he was assaulted by a police officer when he questioned the officer about a missing nameplate. The incident was captured on camera and has been circulating online.
The video, shared by Vishnu Raghav, includes the caption: “When I asked the officer about the nameplate, I got a hard slap on my ear. The case is from Sureri police station area of Jaunpur (sic).”
The clip begins with the journalist asking the police officer why he wasn't wearing a name badge. While one officer shows his name badge, another officer refuses to explain, instead slapping the journalist and verbally abusing him.
The video has sparked outrage among netizens and has amassed over 165.4K views.
One user wrote, "It is requested to the National Human Rights Commission that the video being circulated on social media should be properly investigated, and the action taken by the administration should be considered."
The Jaunpur Police also noticed the video and assured that further investigation will take place. Their comment read: "Taking cognizance of the matter, the Superintendent of Police, Jaunpur, has handed over the investigation of the case to the Deputy Superintendent of Police. After the investigation, necessary legal action will be taken based on the investigation report."
