It is scientifically proven that the human body needs 6-8 hours of sleep on average. Lack of proper sleep can negatively impact one’s health and hinder daily activities.

However, a Japanese man has defied all odds by sleeping only 30 minutes a day for the past 12 years.

The man, identified as Daisuke Hori from Hyogo Prefecture in western Japan, claims he sleeps for only 30 minutes per day to "double" his life. The 40-year-old entrepreneur asserts that he has trained his body and brain to function normally with minimal sleep, and this practice has significantly improved his work efficiency.

He believes that the quality of sleep is more important than the quantity for maintaining good focus. “People who require sustained concentration in their work benefit more from high-quality sleep than from long sleep. For example, doctors and firefighters may have shorter rest periods but still maintain high efficiency,” Hori told a leading media outlet.

To explore Hori’s claims further, Japan's Yomiuri TV followed him closely for three days on a reality show called "Will You Go with Me?".

The show provided viewers with a glimpse of his daily routine and highlighted an instance where Hori slept for just 26 minutes while going about his everyday life—having breakfast, going to work, and even hitting the gym.

Hori is the founder of the Japan Short Sleepers Training Association, where he teaches classes on sleep and health. To date, he has trained over 2,100 students to become ultra-short sleepers.
