New Delhi: Have you ever wondered, which city has the highest number of vegetarian orders placed through the instant food delivery service Swiggy? In a recent report released by the popular food delivery platform, it’s none other than Bengaluru, which emerged as the city with the highest number of vegetarian orders.

According to the data, one in every three vegetarian orders on the platform came from the tech capital of India. Swiggy highlighted that Bengaluru isn't just the Silicon Valley of India but also the "Veggie Valley."

The top vegetarian dishes ordered in the city included Masala Dosa, Paneer Biryani, and Paneer Butter Masala.

Mumbai and Hyderabad Follow in Veggie Popularity

Following Bengaluru, Mumbai ranked second for vegetarian orders on Swiggy. The favourite dishes in Mumbai included Dal Khichdi, Margherita Pizza, and Pav Bhaji.

Hyderabad took the third spot, with Masala Dosa and Idli being the top vegetarian choices.

The report also indicated that six of India's top 10 most-ordered dishes were vegetarian, highlighting the nation's preference for dishes like Masala Dosa, Paneer Butter Masala, Margherita Pizza, and Pav Bhaji.

Breakfast ‘Golden Hour’ for Veg Orders

Swiggy's report further described the ordering patterns and noticed that over 90 per cent of breakfast orders on the platform were vegetarian. This time slot, termed as the "golden hour for vegetarian orders," saw dishes like Masala Dosa, Vada, Idli, and Pongal on top of the charts.

The report emphasised that Masala Dosa was not only a breakfast favourite but also popular for lunch and dinner.

Additionally, it was noted that over 60,000 vegetarian salads were ordered weekly, showing a growing trend toward healthy eating.

Swiggy released the data as part of its first-ever Green Dot Awards, which aimed to celebrate the restaurants with the best vegetarian food across India.
