Bengaluru: A resident of an apartment in Bengaluru was captured on video ruining a Pookalam, a floral arrangement made by children in the complex to celebrate Onam.

The incident reportedly took place in the common area of Monarch Serenity Apartment Complex in East Bengaluru's Hegde Nagar, leaving residents and social media users shocked.

A clip of the incident, now going viral, shows the woman speaking in English and Malayalam while destroying the Pookalam. She was also heard justifying her actions by referencing both the Constitution of India and the Holy Bible. "Let me see what the Constitution of India says. Even the Bible, as per the Bible, this [space] is not for putting any Pookalam here," she said.

In the video, a man is heard asking his wife to stop the woman from further damaging the Pookalam, to which she replied, "I don't want to touch this woman. We will circulate her madness. That's it."

While some people on the internet supported the woman’s reasoning, stating, "She said if you want, you can put it in front of your house, not in the common area. I guess that seems a valid reason. However, her later actions of stepping on it aren't appropriate," many others harshly criticized her behavior.

One commenter wrote, "Where is our education? At this age, she is neither happy nor letting others be happy. Soft, beautiful flowers with a good smell all around – how can someone do this? Oh God, save this mother."

Another comment read, "It’s wicked and a cheap mentality. Whatever the reason, respect religion and traditions, which spread happiness and joy."

A Pookalam is a crucial part of the Onam festival, symbolizing joy and unity. The post revealed that the floral design had been painstakingly prepared by the children in the community.
