Delhi prepares for Dussehra celebrations with a record-breaking 211ft Ravan statue.
Dussehra 2024: As India is all set for Dussehra on 12 October ie Saturday, the Sri RamLila Society is all set to unveil India's tallest Ravan statue, towering at an impressive 211 feet in Dwarka’s Sector 10. The massive statue, which took over four months to build, is the centerpiece of the festival's celebrations.
Led by Rajesh Gehlot, the chairman of the organizing committee, the team also held auditions for over 400 artists from across Delhi NCR, aiming to showcase fresh talent in this year's grand Ramleela event.
Rajesh Gehlot, expressed the significance of this year's statue , connecting its height to the increase in societal sins.
He said in the caption, “As we can see, sin is increasing in society, so this statue is depicting the increasing sins, and we will burn them all on Dussehra, on October 12, 2024.” The statue symbolises the triumph of good over evil, a central theme of the festival.
Decorations inspired by Ram Mandir :
This year’s Ramleela celebrations have taken inspiration from the ancient Ram Mandir temple in Ayodhya, which was demolished centuries ago. The entry gates to the venue have been designed in the style of South Indian temples, known as "Gopuram," creating an atmosphere that blends tradition with artistic grandeur.
“Our focus has been to present Ramleela in the most beautiful way possible, paying careful attention to the decorations and artist performances,” Gehlot wrote.
With large crowds expected to gather for the celebrations, security has been tightened. Over 50 Delhi Police personnel, 200 volunteers, and more than 100 civil officers will be deployed to safeguard the event, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees.
Dussehra, also known as Vijaya Dashami, marks the victory of Lord Ram over the demon king Ravana.
