Tesla India Plans: Likely Model, Price Range, Showroom Locations

Tesla has kicked off hiring in India, signaling its upcoming entry into the market. The development follows CEO Elon Musk’s recent US meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
 

The Elon Musk-led firm has posted 13 job openings spanning customer-facing and back-end roles, positions are available in Mumbai and Delhi. 

There is a lot of buzz that Tesla is start shipping models from Germany to India in the medium term.

At present, Tesla's product portfolio comprises Model S, Model X, Model 3, and Model Y.

An affordable compact car priced at approximately €35,000 (Rs 21-25 lakh), which is speculated to be named Model2, is also expected to be launched in European and Asian markets in the medium term.

A source told Republic Business that Tesla is likely to introduce the Model 3 and Model Y in India in the initial phase, followed by other models. 

Republic Business had earlier reported, citing a source, that Tesla reportedly accelerating its efforts to source components from India for its upcoming compact Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV).

Some media reports also suggest that the company has selected locations for two showrooms in the Indian cities of New Delhi and Mumbai.

Speculation is also rife that Tesla has selected space to lease in the Aerocity in New Delhi as well as Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai.
