It is now mandatory for all packaged goods to display the 'date of manufacturing' and the 'unit sale price,' effective from Monday, as declared by Rohit Kumar Singh, the Consumer Affairs Secretary.

Previously, companies had the flexibility to print either the 'date of manufacturing,' 'date of import,' or packaging date on their products.

However, a recent notification from the Consumer Affairs Ministry stipulates that only the 'date of manufacturing' must be printed, in addition to the 'unit sale price.'

The updated regulations mean that products like a 2.5 kg pack of wheat flour will now feature a unit sale price per kg alongside the maximum retail price (MRP).
