Nikkei falls from 33-year high as sharp gains stoke caution

Japan's Nikkei share average hit a more-than-three-decade-high on Monday before reversing course to end lower as investors turned cautious about the index's recent sharp gains.

Nikkei index fell 0.59% to close at 33,388.03, after rising earlier to its highest level since March 1990.

The broader Topix also changed course to end 0.77% lower at 2,372.60.

Chip-related shares dragged the Nikkei the most, with Tokyo Electron and Advantest down 0.87% and 1.55%, respectively.
