Scholarship Scam Alert: Protect Your Dreams

The results are out! And so are scammers. Scholarship scams surround India amidst exam declarations to take advantage of students' aspirations for higher studies.  

Scholarship scams are misleading tactics used to impersonate genuine organisations by claiming to offer financial assistance. Reports say only 30% turned out real. 

Many Major Scholarship scams have surfaced online, demanding a proper eradication system to counter these practices. Here are some recent scholarship scams you need to know: 

The scheme is eligible for reserved students, and nearly 53% of minority institutions were found to be illegal, with an accumulative scam amount of Rs 144.83 crore.

The Officers of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) were found to be involved in a Rs 250 crore scam. Properties worth Rs 18.27 crore are found to be outdated.

The Tripura Government plans to register FIRs against 34 students suspected of having produced false income certificates to avail of the scholarship. 

Due to these concerning events, the Indian government has intervened to stop the scholarship scams:

The Ministry of Minority Affairs has appointed the Central Bureau of Investigation to investigate scholarship scams. 

The government is applying stronger security verification procedures for institutions seeking scholarships, such as physical verification of infrastructure and the number of students.

Campaigns are set to raise awareness and inform the public to read typical warning signs pointing out unsolicited offers, advance fees, and no eligibility criteria.
