Ahead Of Wuthering Heights Release, Check Out These 4 Bollywood Movies Based On The Obsessive Love Story Of Heathcliff-Catherine


Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights, first published in 1847, has been adapted into movies and series many times. Not just in Hollywood, the obsessive and tragic love story has been remade in India too.

The most recent adaptation of the novel stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi in the lead roles. Directed by Emerald Fennell, the film is one of Hollywood's most anticipated releases.

The film will release in India on February 13, coinciding with the Valentine's Day weekend. However, the story might not appear all that new, since it has been adapted in Bollywood earlier.

Arzoo (1950)

The first known adaptation of the movie was in 1950. Dilip Kumar and Kamini Kaushal took on the roles of Heathcliff and Catherine, respectively. The movie was directed by Shaheed Latif.

Just a year later, Dilip Kumar appeared in the role of Heathcliff again. This time in the SK Ojha directorial Hulchul (1951).

The most popular adaptation of Wuthering Heights in India is Dil Diya Dard Liya (1966). Also starring Dilip Kumar, the movie is directed by Abdul Rashid Kardar.

Dhadkan

Though unofficial, several reports also believe that Akshay Kumar, Shilpa Shetty and Suniel Shetty starrer Dhadkan is an adaptation of Wuthering Heights. The plot also bears some similarity.
