Nature's Wonders: Animals That Don't Sleep


Ants don't sleep, but they do have a cyclical pattern of resting periods. Research by James and Cottell in 1983 found that ants rest for about eight minutes every 12-hour period.

Bluefish doesn't sleep. They are a type of pelagic fish that swim continuously and don't show signs of sleep . They're also known as snapper or tailor. Bluefish stop sleeping during their migration.

According to research, newborn orcas and their mothers may not sleep at all for the first month after birth. When they sleep, orcas only close one eye, with the left eye closing when the right half.
