In Pics: Over 32,500 homes left without power after powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake rocks Japan
On the first day of 2024, Japan issued a tsunami alert after a massive 7.5 magnitude earthquake rocked the country. The Japan Meterological Agency reported quakes off the coast of Ishikawa prefecture.

After the 7.5 magnitude earthquake, the country was jolted by over 20 aftershocks in the span of just one and a half hour, causing heavy devastation across the country.

In light of this, bullet trains in the area were halted. Parts of the highway were also closed, and water pipes were busted in different regions.

Due to the strong tremors over 32,500 homes were left without power and the Meteorological Agency said in a nationally broadcast news conference that more major quakes could hit the area.

Tsunami warnings were also issued for Japan’s northernmost main island of Hokkaido and for parts of North Korea and Russia. The Russian authorities issued an alert in the Sakhalin region.
