Milwaukee: A 21-year-old man who was armed with an AK-47 has been arrested from near the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee.
This arrest of the male suspect comes days after the assassination attempt made on Donald Trump during his rally in Pennsylvania.
Officials have reported that a 21-year-old man wearing a ski mask was arrested Monday near the Fiserv Forum, where the Republican National Convention is being held.
U.S. Capitol Police initially spotted the man around 1 p.M. “looking suspicious, wearing a ski mask and a large tactical backpack in the street,” according to a statement from Milwaukee Police.
Homeland Security Investigators and Capitol Police, who were conducting surveillance, noticed the suspicious man.
Capitol Police stopped the man and determined he was carrying a firearm in his backpack without a concealed carry permit, Milwaukee police said.
The official was not authorized to publicly discuss details of the ongoing investigation and spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
After arresting the suspect, they found an AK-47 pistol and a full magazine inside his tactical bag.
The man has been arrested and an investigation is underway; his intentions remain unclear.
Protection of Republican Presidential Nominee Donald Trump has been boosted by the secret service after an Iranian threat but according to officials, this appears to be unrelated to the Pennsylvania attack.
