New Delhi: In a dramatic turn of events at Tokyo's Haneda airport, a Japan Airlines plane carrying 367 passengers and 12 crew members caught fire following a collision with a coast guard aircraft on the runway.

Amidst shocking visuals, William Manzione, a passenger on the flight, reassured the public on X, stating, “Hi, I was on it. Everyone is safe, and they are taking us to the terminal.”

While unconfirmed, Manzione's X timeline aligned with reports that the passenger plane had arrived from Sapporo airport on Hokkaido.

He shared a photo of the burning plane on the runway, emphasizing, “Everyone is safe; the crew evacuated the whole aircraft quickly.”

5 passengers in coast guard plane lost their lives

Tragically, local media reports indicate that of the six individuals on the coast guard plane involved in the collision, five lost their lives. A coast guard official at Haneda Airport stated, "It's not clear if there was a collision, but it is certain that our plane is involved," as investigations into the incident continue.

The runway shocker unfolded a day after Japan experienced a series of earthquakes, claiming nearly 50 lives. The Jiji news agency reported that the coast guard plane was en route for a rescue operation in central Japan in the aftermath of the quakes.
