AK-47 Recovered After Gunshots In Trump’s Vicinity: FBI Confirms It ‘Attempted Assassination’
The FBI has confirmed the gunshots fired in the vicinity of former US President Donald Trump as an apparent assassination attempt.
Florida: The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has confirmed the gunshots fired in the vicinity of former US President Donald Trump at the Trump International Golf Club in Florida’s West Palm Beach on Sunday as an apparent assassination attempt saying that the agency has begun probing the firing incident as an “attempted assassination”. Trump, the Republican candidate for the 2024 US presidential election, was safe after gunshots were heard near his golf club in Florida on Sunday, according to his campaign chief and the US Secret Service.
Reports suggested that the Secret Service officials opened fire after spotting a person with a firearm, claimed to be an AK-47 rifle, near the golf club shortly before 2 pm on Sunday, according to the officials. It is claimed that the suspect involved in the shooting was detained by the agency and is being interrogated.
Will Never Surrender, Says Trump
Meanwhile, Donald Trump , immediately after the incident, said in an email to his supporters that he was safe and asserted that he "will never surrender".
The FBI, in a statement, said that the agency "has responded to West Palm Beach Florida and is investigating what appears to be an attempted assassination of former President Trump.
Donald Trump was taken to a hard room for his protection by the Secret Service after agents opened fire on a man who was spotted with what may have been a gun while the former president was on the links, according to law enforcement sources. The FBI has now confirmed that Trump was the subject of an apparent assassination attempt at his Florida golf club.
According to the reports, the Secret Service shot at the suspect who reportedly attempted to shove the barrel of his gun through a fence and aimed at the Republican presidential candidate.
"Former President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time," Steven Cheung wrote in a statement shared on his X handle.
The suspect with the firearm fled in an SUV before later being apprehended, officials confirmed. An AK-style firearm was also recovered near the golf course.
