Several Lebanese media outlets are reporting that the latest Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) airstrike in Beirut targeted Nabil Qaouk, the deputy head of Hezbollah’s executive council. The airstrike was focused on the Dahiyeh suburb, a stronghold for Hezbollah in the Lebanese capital.

According to a report from the Times of Israel, the IDF confirmed that it carried out a “targeted strike” in the area but has yet to provide specific details about the operation or its intended target. A statement from the Israeli military noted that further information would be shared later.

Here is what you need to know

Qaouk is a senior figure within Hezbollah’s political and military leadership, making him a critical figure in the organization’s decision-making. If confirmed, this strike would represent another blow to the group following a series of Israeli operations aimed at eliminating key leaders.

Meanwhile, the Israeli Air Force has disclosed that Hassan Khalil Yassin, a senior member of Hezbollah's intelligence headquarters, has also been eliminated.

The targeted suburb, Dahiyeh, is heavily associated with Hezbollah’s operations and has been a frequent location for military actions in previous conflicts. Israeli airstrikes in this area are often viewed as part of a broader strategy to weaken Hezbollah's influence and infrastructure in Lebanon.

The situation remains fluid, and more details are expected as the IDF releases additional information regarding the strike and its outcomes. The IDF has asked civilians in Lebanon's Beqaa Valley to leave the area. “If you are near Hezbollah assets… for your safety and the safety of your families, we ask you to stay away from the area and not return until further notice, Col. Avichay Adraee, the IDF’s Arabic-language spokesman, says on X.
