Beijing: China conducted a record military exercise involving 125 aircraft aimed at Taiwan on Monday.

According to Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence, among these, 90 aircraft—including warplanes, helicopters, and drones—were detected within Taiwan's air defense identification zone. The large-scale drills were described as a warning against any moves toward Taiwanese independence, they said.

China continues to assert its claim over Taiwan, regarding it as an integral part of its territory and emphasizing the goal of eventual reunification, even by force if necessary.

The country has ramped up its military activities around Taiwan, conducting frequent air and naval incursions into Taiwan's air defense identification zone (ADIZ). In light of China’s increasing assertiveness, the United States has reaffirmed its commitment to Taiwan's security, enhancing support through arms sales and military cooperation.

Meanwhile, Taiwan upholds its distinct identity and democratic system, with a significant majority of its population favoring the current status quo of de facto independence. In response to China's military threats, Taiwan has strengthened its defenses and sought to enhance its international presence and partnerships.

Most countries, including the United States, recognize the People's Republic of China (PRC) as the legitimate government of China and adhere to the One-China Policy. However, they maintain unofficial relations with Taiwan, primarily through economic and cultural connections, without formally acknowledging Taiwan's sovereignty.

China has not dismissed the possibility of using force to reunify Taiwan with the mainland if peaceful methods are unsuccessful. It has modernized its military capabilities, significantly enhancing its naval and missile forces, which has sparked concerns in Taiwan and among other nations in the region.
