With 500 days to go until the Beijing Winter Olympics, China said activists calling for a boycott of the games over human rights concerns "violates the spirit of the Olympic Charter and interferes with and destroys the development of international human rights."

A coalition of human rights groups delivered two weeks ago a demand to International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach asking for the IOC to "reverse its mistake in awarding Beijing the honour of hosting the Winter Olympic Games in 2022."

Since, politicians around the world like U.S. Congressman Rick Scott have joined the call to boycott.

"Some organizations have linked the so-called human rights issues with the Beijing Winter Olympics in an attempt to put pressure on the Chinese side, which is a mistake to politicize the sports movement," said Wang Wenbin, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Tuesday.

"This kind of behavior violates the spirit of the Olympic Charter and interferes with and destroys the development of international human rights," Wang said.

The spokesperson also said that negotiations were ongoing between Beijing and the Vatican, which have been reported to be working on a historic agreement over Papal authority in the Communist Party-run nation.

He also confirmed that the sixth round of border talks between India and China had conclude with the intention to continue "a frank and in-depth exchange of views on easing the current situation."
