Argentines throughout the country paid tribute to former President Néstor Kirchner on the tenth anniversary of his death.

Thousands of people participated in a called "caravan of flowers" to Plaza de Mayo to honour the Peronist former Argentinean leader on Tuesday.

The government remembered Kirchner, in power between 2003 and 2007, with the installation of his bronze image in the lobby of the Kirchner Cultural Center in Buenos Aires in an event led by President Alberto Fernández, who was Kirchner's Chief of Cabinet.

The statue was removed from the headquarters of the Union of South American Nations in 2019 in Quito, Ecuador, but was put back on its feet as part of the anniversary event in Buenos Aires.

The event was not attended by the vice president and ex-president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner (2007-2015), widow of the Peronist leader, who the day before indicated that she does not usually attend public activities related to the anniversary of her husband's death.
