European Union finance ministers gathered in person Friday for the first time this year for an informal meeting of the Eurogroup in Lisbon, Portugal.

The Eurogroup represents the EU member states that have adopted the euro as their currency.

On the agenda are an exchange of views on macroeconomic and fiscal developments, and a discussion on the functioning of adjustment mechanisms in the euro area, focusing on post COVID-19 pandemic recovery.

Paschal Donohoe, President of the Eurogroup, said that the prospects for countries in the euro currency zone were improving.

Olaf Scholz, German Finance Minister, said he was confident that Europe would emerge from the pandemic in a better state than it was before.
