Merkel: Germany supports Iraq in fight against IS group

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Tuesday that Germany will continue to support Iraq in the ongoing fight against the Islamic State group. "The IS remains a threat to the region, and of course beyond," she said.

Merkel met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi in Berlin, a day after al-Kadhimi's meeting with French Prime Minister Jean Castex in Paris. Merkel also welcomed Iraq's "willingness to reform". Al-Kadhimi left Baghdad on Sunday on a trip that will see him make stops in France, Germany and the United Kingdom.
