The River Rhine burst its banks after unseasonably warm weather and rain combined with accelerated snowmelt to cause flooding in Western Germany.

In Koblenz, where the Moselle river joins the Rhine, several streets, gardens and even the riverbank promenade were flooded on Tuesday.

It was a similar scene in small surrounding towns such as Sankt Goar, Leutesdorf and Weissenthurm.

Maria-Luise Kelch, the owner of a guest house in Weissenthurm, said she feared she may have to be evacuated.

According to the German Weather Service, there was the potential for further disruption before the water subsided.
