All forms of discrimination against LGBTQ+ people are "totally unacceptable," United Nations secretary-general Antonio Guterres said Thursday.

He was speaking after Hungary's parliament passed a bill that would ban content portraying or promoting homosexuality or sex reassignment to children.

"It is very clear that all forms of discrimination are totally unacceptable and obviously any form of discrimination in relation to LGBTQ+ people are totally unacceptable," Guterres said after meeting Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo in Brussels.

"This is an area where we share the very firm position and the need to be absolutely opposed to any attempt to reinstate discrimination in our societies," he added.

The Hungarian parliament passed the bill last week, but it must be endorsed by the president to take effect. The Hungarian government says the law is meant to protect children but critics say it links homosexuality with paedophilia.
