Von der Leyen: EU must get fair share of vaccines

European Union leaders struggled Thursday to solve quarrels about the distribution of COVID-19 vaccine shots as they tried to ramp up inoculations across their 27 nations amid a shortage of doses, spikes in new cases and a feud with the United Kingdom.

European Union leaders struggled Thursday to solve quarrels about the distribution of COVID-19 vaccine shots as they tried to ramp up inoculations across their 27 nations amid a shortage of doses, spikes in new cases and a feud with the United Kingdom.

"We are at the start of a third wave in Europe, and in many European member states infections are on the rise again," said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. "Overall, the situation is of great concern. And this highlights the importance of a fast and speedy vaccination (programme)," she insisted.
