Arun Jaitley lauds PM Modi's eloquent SCO plenary session address holding terror-aiding countries accountable. Here's his view

Lauding PM Modi's address at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit's Plenary session, former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, on Friday, has said that PM Modi's eloquent address highlighted India's stand for peace while holding other terror funding countries accountable.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the fight against terror, especially in the Central Asian region. In a strong statement against terror, in the presence of Pakistan PM Imran Khan on the same table, PM Modi said that countries sponsoring terror must be held accountable. The strong statement by PM Modi comes just a day after yet another terror attack, in Anantnag, where the hand of Pakistan's Lashkar-e-Toiba has come to light.

In reference to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, PM Modi gave a strong statement:

"Countries shielding terrorists, encouraging terrorism and providing safe havens to them must be held responsible. In order to curb terrorism, SCO members can use the combined power of all SCO members and march ahead in their fight against terrorism. In order to tackle terrorism, India is proposing an international summit."

Appealing for a terrorism-free society and highlighting the common cause of the fight against terrorism of the SCO member countries, Prime Minister Modi said: 

"Last Sunday during my visit to Sri Lanka I went to St Antony's Church and I was reminded of the fatal and cruel face of terrorism that is making its appearance everywhere in the world and killing innocents. To tackle this danger, every humanitarian force and all countries will have to come out of their limited space and will have to fight together."

On day 1 of the SCO summit, PM Modi snubbed Pakistan by not shaking hands with the Pakistani counterpart even as Imran Khan said that outstanding issues with India must be resolved through dialogue. India had already clarified that there would be no bilateral meeting between the two leaders. This comes despite the Pakistan Prime Minister writing a letter to Modi recently, saying Islamabad wants dialogue with New Delhi to resolve all outstanding issues between the two countries. Moreover, Modi's chartered plane did not take the Pakistani air space for flying to Bishkek and instead flew via the circuitous route through Oman and Iran.
