Here Are The UNSC Members Who Support India In Listing Masood Azhar As Global Terrorist

On Wednesday, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) will vote on whether to designate Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist.

The resolution was moved at the UNSC by France, United Kingdom and United States, which came after Masood Azhar's terror outfit was found to be behind the terror attack in Pulwama in which 40 CRPF jawans lost their lives.

India has been making efforts since a number of years to list the Jaish chief as global terrorist. But China, which is one of the permanent members of the UNSC, has blocked such efforts on three occasions in the past, and has hinted that it may do the same again.

Though, a host of countries are standing alongside India in its efforts to curb terrorism. Following are the nations which have extended support to India in designating the JeM chief as global terrorist:

Non permanent members:

  • Belgium
  • Cote d'Iviore
  • Germany
  • Indonesia
  • Kuwait
  • Peru
  • Poland
  • South Africa
  • Equatorial Guinea

Despite pressure from across the globe, China remains non-commital on this matter and hinted that it will once again the block the move.

"On the issue, I want to say that China always adopts a responsible attitude, engage in consultation with various parties properly deal with this issue. The discussion, I want to say must follow the rules and procedures and relevant bodies and only the solution that is acceptable to all sides is conducive for resolving the issue," Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said.  

Should China not take a stand, Masood Azhar will be listed as a 'global terrorist'. But should they again block the move, he will not be designated as one.
