'Howdy, Modi': 200-car rally planned in buildup as mega event nears

Howdy, Modi: In preparation of the event, a 200 Howdy Modi mega car rally is slated to take place on September 20, followed by a press conference at NRG stadium

The city of Houston is gearing up for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit and his address at the mega diaspora event 'Howdy, Modi' on September 22. In the build-up to the event, the massive NRG stadium which will host 50,000 Indians will be the venue of a press briefing where details are likely to be shared. This will also be preceded by a car rally that could involve as many as 200 vehicles. Earlier, Republic TV's team which is on the ground in Texas had accessed exclusive visuals from inside the stadium, showing the preparation that is ongoing.

Billboards all around the city were with welcome messages for PM Modi were also seen.

Preparations at the NRG stadium

The NRG Stadium will play host to the ‘Howdy, Modi! Shared Dreams, Bright Futures’ event held in the honour of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, located in Houston, Texas, it is a multi-purpose stadium.

It is also reported that a Press conference at NRG Stadium will take place on September 20 at noon (10.30 pm IST). Team Republic got out the exclusive images of the preparations taking place at the mega NRG stadium.

The Stellar Infrastructure of the NRG stadium

Opened on August 24, 2002, the stadium was constructed at a price of $352 million. Till 2014, it was known as the ‘Reliant Stadium’. Thereafter, it was renamed ‘NRG Stadium’, after NRG Energy, the parent company of Reliant Energy. It can accommodate 72,220 people at any point in time.

While the total playing surface is 97,000 square feet, the NRG Stadium is the only rodeo and NFL indoor and outdoor retractable roof stadium that can be configured to utilize an area of 1,25,000 square feet. This is specially catered to hosting concerts, exhibitions, and other functions. The Rolling Stones, Metallica, Beyoncé, U2, One Direction, Guns N' Roses, and Taylor Swift have all performed at this venue over the years. Major audio-visual presentations can be easily configured at the stadium, courtesy the design of the roof. It has more than 196 suites along with 5 dressing rooms.
